UAE Pledges $30 Million in Emergency Aid to El Obeid Amid Sudan Crisis
The United Arab Emirates has announced a $30 million emergency humanitarian aid package to support civilians affected by the deteriorating conflict in El Obeid, North Kordofan, Sudan. Disbursed through the newly established UAE Aid Agency, the funding targets critical shortages in food security, healthcare, clean water, and shelter for thousands of displaced residents.
Parallel to the financial aid, UAE officials issued an urgent directive calling for the strict protection of civilians and the immediate establishment of safe, unhindered humanitarian corridors. The Gulf nation emphasized that international humanitarian law must be upheld by all warring factions, urging an immediate halt to military escalations within heavily populated civilian zones.
Speaking on the initiative, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, stressed that international efforts must remain focused entirely on saving lives rather than politicizing civilian suffering. He reiterated that the UAE continues to advocate for independent, impartial mechanisms to ensure accountability for violations committed during the ongoing conflict.
This latest deployment brings the UAE’s total financial assistance to Sudan to approximately $800 million since the outbreak of the crisis. According to Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, the current relief operation will be executed in direct coordination with the United Nations and its regional partners to maximize ground efficiency.
The UAE concluded its briefing by reaffirming that a lasting resolution cannot be achieved through military means. The nation urged all stakeholders to prioritize a civilian-led political process capable of restoring long-term stability, preserving Sudan’s geographic unity, and securing a sustainable future for its citizens.
