According to the Brand Africa 100 | Africa’s Best Brands 2025 rankings, one of Africa’s top entertainment platforms has been formally acknowledged as the #1 Most Admired African Media Brand. In addition to this honour, DStv has been admitted into the esteemed Brand Africa Hall of Fame, which is only given to legendary African companies that have had a major impact on the continent’s competitiveness and reputation abroad over the years.

Leaders from the African media and branding scene came together to recognise the continent’s most influential brands at a high-profile ceremony held at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa to make the announcement. Since its 1995 launch, DStv has transformed from a pioneer in digital satellite television to a content powerhouse, revolutionising the African viewing experience via constant innovation, local content investment, and a strong dedication to sharing African stories.

“The amazing journey we’ve travelled with our viewers throughout Africa is reflected in this accolade. In addition to celebrating our history, being awarded Africa’s most admired media brand and inducted into the Brand Africa Hall of Fame serves as a reminder of our future goals. We are more dedicated than ever to local narrative, cultural authenticity, and innovation. We take pride in being a company that uses meaningful stories to connect and inspire Africans in addition to providing entertainment,”states MultiChoicesaid Group CEO Calvo Mawela .

Based on independent research performed in over 30 African countries—which account for over 85% of Africa’s population and GDP—the Brand Africa 100 study determines the most appreciated brands on the continent each year. These brands have more than 150,000 brand mentions and 5,930 distinct brands. The rankings are the only pan-African, research-led, and non-commercial brand equity assessment of its kind, having been assembled following a rigorous process overseen by research partners including GeoPoll, Kantar, Integrate, and Analysis.

With its entry into the Hall of Fame, DStv solidifies its standing as a cultural force that continues to influence stories and instill pride throughout Africa, in addition to its status as a media brand. DStv continues to be at the vanguard of Africa’s expanding creative economy thanks to its investments in regional productions, collaborations with African artists, and emphasis on high-caliber storytelling.

The same esteemed honour was given to DStv in 2024, reaffirming its consistent excellence and long-standing appeal to viewers across Africa. 30 years after its initial launch with only 16 channels, DStv has developed into a dynamic content powerhouse offering a diverse range of local productions, global entertainment, and integrated streaming options. Reaching millions of households across the continent, it currently offers hundreds of channels and platforms that reflect the diversity, creativity, and aspirations of African viewers.
