Damiina Launches Initiative to Tackle Rising Divorce Rates in Addis Ababa

A new relationship education and consultancy initiative called “Breakfast with Damiina” has been launched in Addis Ababa to address rising divorce rates by providing practical training for couples and individuals.

The program comes in response to alarming figures from the Addis Ababa Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency, which recorded more than 20,000 divorces over the past five years, including over 5,000 cases in the last three months alone. These statistics underscore a growing social challenge that local organizations and community leaders are increasingly urged to address through proactive intervention rather than reactive measures.

Designed to support newlyweds, married couples, and those currently in relationships, the initiative aims to reach over 1,000 participants through a comprehensive one-day training program. The curriculum focuses on core interpersonal skills essential for long-term stability, such as effective communication, emotional awareness, constructive conflict management, and a shared understanding of partnership responsibilities.

Organizers emphasize that the program seeks to equip participants with crucial tools before relationship challenges escalate into critical crises. By fostering an environment for guided discussions and shared learning experiences, Damiina hopes to instill proactive habits that strengthen family foundations across the capital.

An official press conference is scheduled to introduce the program’s objectives to media professionals and community influencers, aiming to broaden public awareness regarding family well-being. Stakeholders believe that expanding access to professional relationship guidance will play a vital role in building healthier, more resilient communities throughout the region.
