Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – September 9, 2024 – African artists are invited to participate in the Whispers of Earth Arts Contest, a unique platform to showcase their creativity and commitment to environmental advocacy. Organized by alela multimedia, the Ministry of Planning & Development of Ethiopia, and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, this contest calls upon artists to reflect on the urgent issue of climate change through their art.
The Whispers of Earth Arts Contest is part of a pre-COP29 initiative, aimed at raising awareness about climate change at both the national and international levels. Selected works will be featured in an exhibition at COP29 in Baku, showcasing the powerful voice of African artists and their role in addressing global climate challenges. This exhibition will highlight Ethiopia’s leadership in climate action as it continues to stand as one of Africa’s strongest advocates for environmental sustainability.
Ethiopia has been at the forefront of the climate change movement on the African continent, leading ambitious initiatives such as the Green Legacy Program, which has successfully planted billions of trees. The country is making significant progress in reducing emissions, promoting biodiversity, and advancing sustainable energy solutions. These efforts underline Ethiopia’s role as a climate leader and a beacon of hope for other African nations in the fight against climate change.
In partnership with Ethiopia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, who is making significant strides to ensure the success of COP29, is committed to making COP29 a platform for global dialogue and action, and through this partnership, African voices, particularly from the artistic community, will play a vital role in these discussions. This collaboration showcases both countries’ shared dedication to tackling global climate issues through international cooperation.
The Whispers of Earth Arts Contest provides African artists with an international platform to use their creativity as a tool for raising awareness about the impacts of climate change. This is a chance for artists to be part of a global movement, share their perspectives, and inspire change.
With the grand prize including a trip to Azerbaijan and participation in COP29, artists are encouraged to register at www.teguadz.com and submit their work by September 15, 2024, with final submissions due by September 20, 2024.
