US Ambassador Ervin Massinga Arrives in Mekelle for Strategic Talks
The United States Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin Massinga, arrived in Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray region, on Wednesday morning for a one-day official visit. Upon his arrival at Alula Aba Nega International Airport, Massinga was received by senior leaders of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
During his stay, the ambassador is scheduled to hold high-level discussions focusing on regional security, peacebuilding efforts, and the delivery of humanitarian assistance. The talks are also expected to cover broader socio-political developments following the cessation of hostilities in the region.
This diplomatic visit comes at a critical juncture as international partners continue to monitor the implementation of the Pretoria peace agreement. Security and humanitarian access remain top priorities for the international community in northern Ethiopia.
The engagement follows a period of complex diplomatic relations between Washington and the TPLF leadership. Previously, the United States government had imposed visa restrictions on several TPLF officials and their families, citing concerns related to the conflict.
Ambassador Massinga’s visit underscores ongoing international efforts to engage directly with regional stakeholders to foster stability and address outstanding humanitarian needs in the area.
