Tsaga, an accountant at the Dashan Bank branch in Hawassa Warka, was kidnapped in May of last year by a sergeant who wanted to be friends with her.
He was driving a government vehicle when he kidnapped her on May 23, 2023, in the evening as she was taking a cab home from work.
The police confirmed that Yiwhala Mebrat W/Mariam, the personal bodyguard of Hawassa City’s mayor, kidnapped and sexually assaulted Tsega Belachew following the kidnapping.
It took ten days for the authorities to find out where he was bringing her after he abducted her.

After hearing the prosecutor’s testimony, the court gave the defendant instructions to defend himself in the first case in line with Article 37 and 587(1) of the Criminal Law and in the second case in line with 620 (3). But since the defendant did not dispute the crime, the court found him guilty.
The Sidama Regional Justice Office reported that accused Sergeant Khadmebarate was found guilty and given a 16-year prison sentence.
