According to Abune Petros, General Secretary of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church’s Holy Synod, the three former bishops( the three bishops, Blessed Abune Sawiros, Blessed Abune Eustatheos, and Blessed Abune Zena Markos )who were sentenced by the church after establishing another synod have apologized to the patriarch.
As a result, the procedure for lifting the condemnation is expected to be carried out through a meeting of the Holy Synod presided over by the Patriarch. The condemning order is anticipated to be lifted in the coming days, just before Lent begins (before February 20)
Following the deal, security officials detained famous religious preachers, worshippers, and campaigners. According to sources, the majority of them have been sent to Awash 7 prison, where they are “suspected of terrorist operations and the establishment of an informal group to destroy the constitution by force.”
After their discussion, the Prime Minister told Abune Petros that individuals imprisoned in connection with the church would be released in the following days.
The General Secretary of the Holy Synod announced that the execution of the release of those arrested will be seen until tomorrow Friday (February 10); it is stated that some servers are being solved.
The church expressed her regret that the “illegal papacy” that tested her unity and life was internal, racial, and political in nature. Yet, the church has had additional difficulties. She stated that the current difficulty has yielded positive benefits outside of the problem.
Abune Petros stated that when the appointed bishops return, a solution based on the church’s canonical structure will be provided gradually under the leadership of the patriarch.
