The Delanta neighbourhood stages a nonviolent protest in response to the rape of an eight-year-old child

In response to the rape of an eight-year-old child in the South Wolo Zone, Delanta District, in Amhara Region, sources state that a peaceful protest was staged on Thursday.

The daughter was raped on Wednesday at around 11 o’clock in the evening. The gathering was called because the rape was thought to be a member of the Defence Forces, according to information that Addis Malada got from neighbourhood residents and district communication.

Locals told Addis Maalda that since Wednesday at 11 o’clock, there has been a firefight between the “Fano” fighting group and the defending army, despite the fact that the neighbourhood had condemned the kid’s rape.

Locals mentioned the Defense’s temporary camp close to the Delanta area. They emphasised that after exchanging fire with the armed forces, the defence men stationed there fled.

According to Meszgeb Fantaw, a communication specialist for the Delanta district who spoke with Addis Malada about the situation, the defence forces apparently left the region on last Wednesday.
