launching “Together We Can Bring Education to African Children & Youth,” a new three-year initiative from the UN Refugee Agency. In addition to providing high-quality education to around 54,000 refugee children, the initiative aims to support 15 DAFI (Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative) scholars throughout Africa and encourage efforts towards sustainable development on the continent. Nearly 17,000 refugee children and hundreds of scholars have benefited from the renewed partnership since it began in 2020, when it provided support for elementary education, teacher training, and school infrastructure in countries including Kenya and Uganda.

TECNO and UNHCR will concentrate on enrolling out-of-school children in primary schools with this new phase, especially in areas that host refugees, such as Kenya’s Dadaab and Kakuma camps, which collectively house over 217,000 school-age refugee children. At least 18,000 refugee children and five DAFI scholars will get initial support in 2025, with the ultimate objective of enrolling over 55,000 youngsters in the upcoming years. The project will supply educational materials, girls’ hygiene kits, infrastructural improvements, and resources for educators and school-related activities. The collaboration is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN, especially Goal 4, which advocates for universal access to high-quality, inclusive education. The parties hope to establish secure learning environments and assist refugee children in realising their full potential by pooling resources and expertise.
Thousands of additional students are anticipated to profit from the program in 2025 alone, with Kenya—which is already housing over 774,000 migrants and asylum-seekers—being one of the initiative’s main benefactors. Additionally, the cooperation provides refugee scholars with access to higher education, enabling them to improve their communities and create better futures.
