The Prosperity Party (PP) has secured the vast majority of seats across 24 constituencies, while opposition parties won limited representation, according to election results released on Tuesday. The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced that the National Movement of Amara (NAMA) and the Gumuz People’s Democratic Movement (GPDM) managed to capture a few seats in specific voting districts.
NEBE Chairperson Melatwerk Hailu stated that the newly released data covers 24 constituencies located across four main regions: Oromia, Gambella, Amhara, and Benishangul-Gumuz. In both Oromia and Gambella, the ruling Prosperity Party achieved a clean sweep, with its candidates winning all available seats for both the House of Peoples’ Representatives and regional councils by significant margins.
In the Amhara region, final results were confirmed for the Gondar Zuria 4 constituency. NAMA candidate Tahir Mohammed successfully won a seat in the House of Peoples’ Representatives to represent his party, though the Prosperity Party claimed victory across the remaining contested seats in the region.
Meanwhile, in the Benishangul-Gumuz region, GPDM candidate Hasil Arbab Hamis secured one seat in the regional council. The remaining eight regional council seats in the area were won by the Prosperity Party. Chairperson Melatwerk noted that the completed constituencies either featured single-party races or concluded with wide margins of victory spanning thousands of votes.
Nationally, the NEBE reported that 816 out of 1,138 total constituencies have completed tallying their votes and forwarded the data to the central headquarters. The election board announced that comprehensive, detailed breakdowns of these results will be progressively published on its official website.
