Organizations Launch #NotWaiting Campaign to Reshape Global Narrative on Africa

A new continental initiative named “#NotWaiting” was officially launched today during a joint press conference held by Africa No Filter and Opportunity Africa. The campaign specifically aims to challenge and shift the long-standing negative perceptions and stereotypes surrounding the African continent by highlighting its internal progress.

Coinciding with the annual celebration of Africa Day, the movement issues a collective call to action for Africans worldwide. It encourages citizens to actively share stories of innovation, technological advancement, and entrepreneurship that are currently driving the continent’s development, emphasizing local agency over external aid.

Participants can engage with the movement by sharing their stories on social media using the hashtag #NotWaiting, or by submitting them directly to the official campaign portal at www.notwaiting.africa. Organizers announced that this advocacy drive will continue sustainably, with dedicated activations occurring on the 25th day of every month.

Moky Makura, the Executive Director of Africa No Filter, stated during the launch that the initiative empowers Africans to take charge of their own storytelling. She noted that self-representation is a critical step toward fundamentally altering how the rest of the world perceives and engages with the continent.

The launch organizers further emphasized that while Africa Day traditionally serves as a symbol of continental pride and historical reflection, this new campaign represents the tangible mindset of a forward-looking generation. This demographic is characterized by its unwillingness to wait for external validation or solutions to drive regional growth.

Both Africa No Filter and Opportunity Africa operate as advocacy organizations dedicated to disrupting biased media representations. Through this partnership, they aim to provide a continuous platform that spotlights the creators, business leaders, and innovators who are actively steering Africa’s future.
