MultiChoice Ethiopia Announces Full Live Coverage of 2026 FIFA World Cup on DStv

MultiChoice Ethiopia has officially confirmed that DStv will provide comprehensive live coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, bringing all 104 matches to football fans across the country.

The tournament, scheduled to run from 11 June to 19 July 2026, will be the largest in history, featuring 48 nations competing across host cities in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

To maximize viewership for the expanded 39-day competition, MultiChoice is making the tournament accessible to subscribers starting from the DStv Access package at 569 Birr.

In tandem with the tournament launch, the company has introduced a hardware promotion for the Ethiopian market, offering the HD Zapper Decoder at a significantly reduced price of 999 Birr. This initiative ensures that even entry-level customers can experience every moment of the world’s premier sporting event.

SuperSport will deliver the coverage through dedicated 24-hour World Cup channels, including a special pop-up channel and multi-language commentary options. Given the significant time difference between North America and East Africa, the broadcaster is emphasizing a “round-the-clock” content strategy.

This includes simultaneous match broadcasts during the final group stages and continuous programming to accommodate fans watching late-night fixtures.

“The FIFA World Cup is more than just a tournament – it’s a shared global moment,” stated Gelila G. Michael, Managing Director of MultiChoice Ethiopia. “Our goal is to ensure that fans across Africa can experience every goal, every story, and every unforgettable moment as it happens. With dedicated World Cup channels and multi-platform access, SuperSport will once again be the home of the biggest sporting event in the world.”

Recognizing the shift in viewing habits, DStv is integrating its digital platforms to allow fans in Ethiopia to watch “anytime, anywhere.” Subscribers can access live streams, full match replays, and highlights via the MyDStv app and official website. This flexibility is designed to help viewers keep up with the action on their smartphones or tablets, regardless of the late-night kick-off times.

The broadcast will also feature a “distinctly Pan-African lens,” highlighting the journeys of African nations in the tournament. Alongside the live games, viewers will have access to expert analysis, exclusive magazine shows, and behind-the-scenes content. MultiChoice Ethiopia encourages fans to manage their subscriptions or upgrade via the DStv platforms ahead of the opening match on 11 June to ensure uninterrupted access to the historic 48-team event.
