​Germany has announced an additional €12.1 million in funding to support four key continental programs under the African Union (AU) in 2026, according to a statement from the German Embassy in Ethiopia. The agreement reinforces the ongoing strategic partnership between Germany and the AU to promote stability and growth across the continent.

​Implemented through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the financial support aligns directly with the AU’s Agenda 2063 framework. The aid focuses on accelerating regional integration, fostering sustainable economic development, improving financial transparency, and strengthening continental public health systems.

​Under the specific allocations, the largest portion—€5.6 million—is dedicated to infrastructure and economic integration through the “Africa InCORE” program to boost intra-African trade and green initiatives. Furthermore, €3 million is earmarked to enhance development finance and tax systems, aiming to curb illicit financial flows and improve debt management alongside the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF).

​Energy transition and health capabilities make up the remaining funding. €1.5 million is designated for renewable energy and power distribution networks via the “ENGAGE” program, while €2 million will support the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to enhance institutional capacity, manage disease outbreaks like Ebola, and build future epidemic readiness.

​The embassy highlighted that this latest financial commitment underscores Germany’s commitment to supporting African-led solutions for continental challenges, helping local institutions build long-term resilience and self-reliance.
