Federal Police Detain Suspect in “Viva Soft” Trademark Infringement Investigation

The Federal Police Crime Investigation Bureau has announced the arrest and investigation of a suspect, Mr. Seyid Mohammednur Omer, over an alleged trademark infringement involving the “Viva Soft” tissue brand.

According to the police application submitted to the Federal First Instance Court, Arada Bench, the suspect had been using the “VIVa” trademark without authorization—a brand legally registered by the “Pure Wood Pulp and Paper Packaging” association.

Police investigators detailed that, since 2024 the suspect had allegedly been replicating the product’s packaging to covertly distribute counterfeit items. The authorities further asserted that these substandard goods contained unhealthy and unverified chemicals, arguing that such actions deceive consumers, distort fair market competition, and negatively impact the broader economy.

Seeking to finalize the ongoing investigation, the police requested a 14-day remand extension, arguing that the suspect might tamper with evidence or influence potential witnesses if released on bail. They emphasized the need for adequate time to secure all necessary forensic and testimonial documentation before formal charges are filed.

However, during the court session held on June 3, 2026 , the presiding judge reviewed the police’s arguments but denied the full 14-day request. Balancing the rights of the suspect with the needs of the justice system, the court granted a scaled-down 7-day investigation period instead.
The court has adjourned the case until June 11, 2026 to hear the status of the police investigation. As the judicial process continues, the suspect remains presumed innocent under the law until a final verdict is reached.
