Tragic Bus Accident Claims 28 Lives on Dessie-Addis Ababa Route

​A horrific public transport bus accident claimed the lives of 28 people today after the vehicle plunged into a deep gorge while traveling from Dessie to Addis Ababa. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 15, 2026 , leaving several other passengers with minor and severe injuries.

​The disaster unfolded on the notorious stretch of road traditionally known as “Harego,” located between the cities of Dessie and Kombolcha. Local police confirmed that the bus lost control while navigating a steep downhill slope on this mountainous route.

​According to an official report by Amhara Mass Media , the vehicle veered off the road and tumbled approximately 100 meters down a cliff. The sheer force of the fall resulted in the immediate deaths of 28 passengers on board, turning the morning commute into a scene of devastation.

​An emergency response was launched immediately following the crash. Emergency workers and community members are currently making extensive efforts to transport the survivors to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
