Ethiopia opens its first private security guard training facility

Commander Gemechu Gadissa founded the GC Security Professionals and Leaders Training Institute in Six Killo after spending many years working and studying in a military facility in Ethiopia. The academy would provide a variety of brief, three- to six-month training sessions.

In addition to undergoing basic security training, the trainees, who are apparently expected to have completed the 12th grade, will also learn how to operate surveillance cameras, the basics of computers, the art of self-defense, and the English language.

The opening ceremony of the acadamy held yesterday in the presence of Addis Ababa police officers.

The cost of the instruction is two thousand birr a month, and the academy helps the pupils find employment.

It is stated that students study for eighteen hours a week at the school, which has the capacity to instruct 100 pupils at once.

Commander Gemechu Gadissa said , “As a nation, we greatly undervalue security guard employment and employ individuals who have no idea what a true security guard should be.Students who are interested in working as private security officers or licenced security guards should participate in this programme. In addition to giving students the opportunity to take the state-mandated licencing exam in a classroom setting, the certificate also gives them the training they need to become licenced security guards.”
