According to reports, more than 5,000 Sudanese have asked Ethiopia for asylum

Ambassador Meles Alem, the minister of foreign affairs’s spokeswoman, spoke to the media during a news conference and in an explanation. He described the work being done by the task force that was formed in view of the circumstances in Sudan at the time.

There are three types of Sudanese tourists to Ethiopia, according to Ambassador Meles: those who escape their native country and look for asylum there are allowed to stay as long as they choose; those who stay in Sudan but go outside of it are not regarded as Sudanese.

Due to the lack of peace, a large number of South Sudanese have fled to Ethiopia, where 30 thousand 691 of them are residents, according to their account of the current situation there.

Ambassador Meles Alem said that on the other side, 5,380 people had requested refuge, 25,311 people had entered the nation legitimately, 17,000 of them Ethiopians, and that “we hope for a peaceful resolution to their issues in Sudan and Ukraine.”
