According to the Oromian prosecutor, the accused Izadin Kemal kidnapped a two-year-old child on February 14, 2022, at 7:00 am, and threatened to kill them if their parents did not send 100,000 birr to his bank account. The complaint states that the suspect was detained by law enforcement after he claimed he hadn’t been paid and strangled a child’s neck with a shoelace before tossing it into the woods of the East Tulu Jidu Kombolcha area.
The court took into account the accused man’s defences and the prosecution’s evidence after he was charged with felony murder in violation of Sections 586 and 539(1) of the Criminal Code of 2004. Hence, the High Court of West RC Zone, which took into account the arguments of the left and right, sentenced the defendant in the trial that took place on March 28, 2023 to 25 years in prison.
