Four of Ethiopia’s leading legal practices formally announced their union to form Taza Legal LLP on June 25, 2026. Unveiled at the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Headquarters, the merger combines Tameru WondimAgegnehu & Partners, Mesfin Tafesse & Associates, Mekdes & Associates, and Hanna Mulugeta Law Office. The new entity becomes one of the country’s largest independent full-service law firms.

The strategic combination is designed to support Ethiopia’s rapidly evolving economic landscape, which has seen the opening of its financial sector and increased international investment. Operating from Addis Ababa, the firm’s integrated team will offer localized, internationally benchmarked legal counsel across corporate, commercial, M&A, banking, energy, infrastructure, tax, and dispute resolution sectors.
By combining decades of distinct experience, the leadership intends to move beyond individual practices toward a sustainable, institutionalized model. Managing Partner Mesfin Tafesse and Senior Partner Tameru WondimAgegnehu emphasized that the firm aims to build an enduring platform that will develop future Ethiopian legal talent while acting as a trusted shield for client interests.
Partners Mekdes Mezgebu and Hanna Mulugeta highlighted that the launch reflects optimism regarding domestic growth and a commitment to mentoring the next generation of legal practitioners, specifically empowering women lawyers to lead within the industry. As the official Ethiopian member of the African Legal Network (ALN), the firm also links deep local insight with a 15-market pan-African alliance.
Taza Legal commences operations with seven partners, more than 20 professionals, and over a century of combined expertise. Moving forward, the firm’s leadership plans to scale its regional capabilities and invest in emerging practice areas, including fintech and capital markets, to meet the sophisticated demands of both domestic enterprises and multinational corporations.
