The inaugural Africa CMO 100 (ACMO 100) list was recently unveiled, recognizing the continent’s most impactful marketing and commercial leaders. Among the prestigious honorees are two prominent Ethiopian professionals: Abdulkadir Mamma Hussein, Chief Marketing Officer at BGI Ethiopia, and Lemma Yadecha Gudeta, Group Chief Commercial Officer at Ethiopian Airlines. This list, published by African Business in partnership with Brand Africa, celebrates individuals who have significantly shaped the identity and growth of major brands across the continent.

The selection of these Ethiopian executives highlights their contributions to two of the country’s most vital sectors—beverages and aviation. Lemma Yadecha Gudeta has been instrumental in maintaining Ethiopian Airlines’ position as a global leader, while Abdulkadir Mamma Hussein has led strategic brand positioning for BGI Ethiopia in a highly competitive market. Their inclusion reflects a broader trend of professional maturity and the adoption of sophisticated marketing strategies within the East African business landscape.

Organizers of the ACMO 100 noted that the list spans 20 countries and multiple industries, including finance, telecommunications, and digital technology. A key finding of this inaugural report is the high representation of women, who make up 62% of the honorees. The initiative aims to shift the narrative around African brands, which currently hold only a small fraction of the market share compared to global competitors, by highlighting the architects behind successful local enterprises.
The recognition comes at a pivotal time for African commerce. By celebrating leadership in branding and reputation management, the ACMO 100 seeks to foster a community of experts who can drive economic progress through consumer trust. The honorees are selected based on their strategic ownership of brands and their ability to drive revenue growth, rather than just their formal job titles.
The official celebration for the inaugural cohort is scheduled to take place during Brand Africa Week in Addis Ababa from May 22 to 26, 2026. This gathering will serve as a platform for African marketing leaders to exchange insights and mentor the next generation of professionals. For Ethiopia, having two representatives on such a high-profile list underscores the country’s growing influence in the regional business arena.
