A statement made that evening by the municipal police claimed that the Friday prayer at the Grand Anwar Mosque had ended amicably.In order to hurt the security personnel stationed to enforce the peaceful ceremony of prayer, plans were once again afoot among the Muslim community to overturn the constitutional system under the cover of religion. The Supreme Councils of Islamic Affairs of Ethiopia and Addis Abeba had conveyed a message of peace, but this was in opposition to it. The rioting resulted in three fatalities, but the police report that there were also a number of injuries.
Last Friday, there was an incident between the government security forces and Muslims in Addis Abeba city’s Anwar Mosque as they protested the procession of mosques in Sheger City. The security forces killed two persons while injuring a number of others.

The Supreme Council of Ethiopian Islamic Affairs, represented by Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa, is understood to have discussed de-escalation tactics with the concerned Federal Police Commission in order to ease tension and provide immediate relief to those impacted.
According to reports, ambulances arrived at the scene to take injured worshippers to local hospitals for treatment.
The president of Addis Abeba’s High Council of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Sultan Aman, and three other senior Majlis leaders visited the Grand Anwar Mosque before allowing the worshippers to leave and safely return home.
