The conflict in the Tigray region is said to have killed more least 2,100 instructors and 1,700 children

The two-year battle in northern Ethiopia has only affected the Tigray region. 2000146 teachers and 1000700 children have reportedly passed away, according to the Ethiopian Ombudsman Institution.

The institution claims that there has been severe harm to neighbouring schools as well. The extent to which the battle had impacted the educational system, he maintained, was the subject of more inquiry.

In elementary schools, there were about 39 students per classroom before the war; after it, that number rose to 434.

In secondary schools, it was recorded that a class of 43 students before the war became a class of 365 students after the war.

However, it is said that in order to rehabilitate the damaged educational institutions, a short- and long-term strategy has been devised to identify and repair those with high, medium, and low damage.

However, the institution found that the damage to the region’s health sector is estimated to cost more than 65.5 billion birr.

The sites of the health institutions damaged by the war have been reported to the Ministry of Health and the region’s provisional government, but despite the budget being authorised, the work done so far falls short of what is required.

He urged the Ethiopian People’s Ombudsman to enlist the help of many stakeholders in order to repair broken service providers and address the housing and food problems faced by displaced people.
