The Amhara region declares that it is in talks for peace with the militant organization “Agew Shengo”

The militant “Agew Shengo” organization, which is connected to the Wag khmra ethnic group, has reportedly started peace negotiations with the region, according to the Amhara State Government. The militant group is alleged to have imposed “preconditions” in recently allegedly launched peace talks.

It was in response to a question from the council members about the state of the region’s peace, according to IGezachew Muluneh, head of the Amhara Regional Government’s communications division.

Political party members founded the armed group known as the “Agew National Council,” also known as the “Agew Shengo,” according to the state government. The militants are currently not under any control of the regional government. Furthermore, according to Gezachew, they are “widely” active in the Tsabji and Abergele districts, which are under Wagkhmra ethnic rule.

The Tsagbji and Abergele districts will receive attention from the regional government on this matter. The head of the regional communication office admitted to “Ethiopia Insider” that they spoke with the neighborhood militants twice.

In their discussions, the armed group showed a “desire to resolve the matter peacefully,” according to the official.
