Out of 37 public colleges, just two are found to be “defect-free.”

Two out of the 37 public universities whose 2021 financial accounts were examined “found no deficiencies,” according to the Ministry of Education. According to the ministry, 48.6% of the audited universities were found to be performing at a “unacceptable” level.

The Ministry of Education announced this last Tuesday during the normal session of the House of Representatives. One of the subjects covered in the ministry’s nine-month performance report, which was presented at this conference, was government universities.

The report highlights three issues: the number of students the institutions have hosted this year, the University Autonomy Act, which is pending approval from the Parliament, and the exit exam for students beginning this year.

The financial management method used by higher education institutions is also covered in this study. Professor Birhanu Nega, the minister of education, presented the report to the members of the House of Representatives. They claimed that the institutions’ stance in this regard had been made clear by the Federal Auditor General’s 2013 financial audit.

According to the minister, there were “unacceptable” audit issues at 18 of the 37 public universities that were looked at.
