On behalf of the people of the Oromia region who are being affected by the drought, Mustafa Keder, the head of the Oromia Busa Gonofa area, appealed for assistance.
In his speech, he asserted that the drought in the southeast of the region had gotten worse because there had been so little rain over the previous three years.
He asserts that as of now, 3.6 million people in 10 zones—an increase from 3.2 million in 8 zones earlier—have requested assistance. According to the official, 867 thousand people in the Borena zone alone receive daily assistance. 465,000 quintals of food grains, worth 1.8 billion birr, had been distributed.
