In remembrance of the passengers and crew of Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET-302, which crashed on the morning of 10 March 2019 while en route from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, a memorial has been constructed at the site. The town of Bishoftu is not far from the location. Notably, the plane disaster claimed the lives of 157 people.

Ato Mesfin Tassew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, families of the dead, ambassadors, other visitors, and locals joined Alemu Sime, Minister of Transport and Logistics, at the monument. “The plane crash is a great sorrow in our hearts that will never be forgotten,” Alemu Sime remarked. Following this devastating catastrophe, the international aviation industry has taken major steps to strengthen oversight, improve aircraft design, and increase safety.
Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tassew expressed his deepest condolences to the victims and their families. He also thanked the local community for their support during the crisis and until the memorial’s erection.
