Ethiopian Telecom announces the official launch of its 5G service in Hawassa

The company has officially announced the launch of its fifth generation mobile network service after completing network site installations in multiple locations throughout Hawassa City, which is located in Ethiopia’s Southern Region. 

Locations such as Piasa, the Ethio Telecom building, Fiker Haik, Wolde Amanuel Dubale Square, Wanza/the former bus station, Saint Gabriel Cathedral Square, the Southern Region Finance Office, Holy Trinity Church and Haile Resort now offer fifth-generation mobile network services.

Ethiopian telecom has deployed a cutting-edge 5G wireless network with ultra-low latency (down to 1 millisecond) and speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (10 Gbs).

The service enables up to one million devices per square kilometre, according to the company, allowing it to meet customers’ ever-increasing demands for data and internet.

The company continued by stating that the rollout of 5G services will significantly benefit its customers by expanding network capacity and enabling seamless, high-quality digital solutions, financial services, and communication.

It added that increased connectivity fosters innovation and the employment of young software developers, bolstering online education, digital training, information, and entertainment services, and ultimately boosting economic growth. It also promotes an inclusive digital economy by increasing digital literacy, bridging the digital divide, and facilitating wider smartphone access.

The company has already implemented advanced 5G wireless network technology in Addis Ababa, Adama, Jigjiga, Dire Dawa, Harar, Bahir Dar, and their surrounding areas. This technology has only been implemented in a few countries worldwide.
