Ethiopia halts the import of Volkswagen electric vehicles built in China

The Ministry’s information indicates that, the government is implementing various incentives for electric vehicles to be widely produced, assembled and imported into the country.

Until further notice, Ethiopia has imposed a ban on the importation of electric Volkswagen vehicles made in China.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has temporarily banned the entry of electric Volkswagen vehicles built in China.

The German company informed the minister in a letter sent through the embassy that the Volkswagen electric vehicle, which is being imported from China and is entering Ethiopia, does not possess a valid licence.

As a result, imports of the Chinese-made Volkswagen electric vehicle are presently forbidden until the company provides a legitimate licence.

The ministry claims that it is meticulously managing the duty of monitoring the automobiles as they enter the country and determining their legality.
