Ethiopia and UAE Strengthen Economic Ties at High-Level Addis Ababa Business Forum

Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates are deepening their bilateral trade and investment cooperation following a high-level business forum held in Addis Ababa. Organized by the Addis Ababa Chamber of Sectoral Associations in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event brought together key government officials, industry leaders, and investors from both nations to explore emerging economic partnerships.

The forum focused heavily on leveraging Ethiopia’s untapped potential in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, ICT, and tourism alongside the UAE’s advanced capabilities in logistics, technology, and finance. Senior Ethiopian officials emphasized that ongoing economic reforms and market liberalization policies are designed to create a more welcoming environment for foreign direct investment. Discussions also highlighted the strategic trade pipeline between the two countries, noting that Ethiopia consistently exports key commodities such as coffee, sesame, and meat to Gulf markets.

Leadership from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry presented targeted investment opportunities within Sharjah, encouraging deeper private-sector collaboration and joint ventures. Representatives from the Ethiopian Investment Commission detailed the regulatory frameworks, government incentives, and infrastructural developments currently underway to facilitate seamless business operations for international partners.

Beyond formal presentations, the gathering featured a dedicated business-to-business (B2B) networking session designed to connect local Ethiopian enterprises directly with visiting Emirati investors. Economists note that such bilateral platforms are vital for bridging capital and technological gaps, potentially scaling up bilateral trade volumes significantly over the coming fiscal years.
