‘ Egypt is the gift of Nile ‘ is a wrong Greek historian Herodotus saying which still mistakenly segregated in every Egyptians mind as it has been saying for centuries . Again for centuries no politician told them that Nile is originating from Ethiopia and Ethiopia has not getting 0.1 watt power from Africa’s longest river . What a bizarre . Herdotos should have been said Ethiopia too is the gift of Nile cause the river is originating from her not from Egypt .
When they build the one billion dollar High Aswan dam they did not consult Ethiopia for a country it holds 85 percent share of the river. But they need to hold the remote controle for another country dam which they are not entitled to do so . Which is a selfish character .
Like most of African countries, Ethiopia is a poor country though it has resources to rise above the poverty line .And building a dam on Nile is one of the course to meet the electric power demand for the 110 million population from which 70 million lacks electricity and lead there life in candle light to do something at night . And the Egypt politicians don’t want to hear this and as long us Nile is pouring water in there plane lands to feed there agriculture and meet there power demand .
One things for sure Egyptians would not remain calm if Nile was originating from Cairo and giving water for Ethiopia for hydroelectric and irrigation works like Egyptians get it now and have been getting for centuries. But the problem in Egypt they don’t wat to put themselves in Ethiopian shoes. Ethiopia the one and the only country wich has not been colonised by the whites and count a victory against Italian aggression is still suffering from poverty though it has immense resources to change itselves .
The many Egypt politicians tried there best to deny Ethiopia to access loan from world Bank and other international monetary fund organisations for a big Dam that can give above 52,000MW when all it’s turbines rotate to give electric power. Thanks to the late PM Meles zenawi , he launched the 5 billion dollar dam by saying ” The dam will be build by the Ethiopians and Ethiopia government. ” Now Egypt come with World Bank and America to suspend or slow down the construction of the much anticipated dam whose 70 % construction has completed and generating power may begin in next year by two or three of it’s turbines.
The problem with the vanished and the live Egypt governments ,they don’t have plan ‘B’ to see other solution for irrigation and hydropower apart from Nile . They don’t need Ethiopia to use a single spoon of water from the river Nile . It is mental sickness and it is a greedy mentality .what kind of discipline it is? to deny something for a country it allows them to use her flowing water for many many years while she is suffering from water and while she is the starting point of the longest river in Africa.
Working wildly in solar energy, wind power, drop irrigation is another solution for Egypt but they use it in a very small amount. They can build channel and can get water from Congo river which it’s million cubic meter water wasted in various places. But Egyptian don’t want to see this solution as a remedy for the Renissance Dam who will reduce there water volume till the dam is filled but they don’t need to make a big plan on the alternative solutions cause they don’t have plan ‘ B’ apart from Nile which make none sense for up stream country whose growing population has increased so fastly which let them to do something on the resources to meet there people economy demands .
