After Ethiopia’s foreign minister, Demeke Mekonem, was ousted from his vice post in the ruling Prosperity Party last week, it was expected that a replacement minister would be nominated soon.
News of Taye Atske Selassie’s appointment as Ethiopia’s foreign minister was released this morning by the national parliament. Selassie is a former ambassador, permanent representative of Ethiopia to the UN, and foreign policy advisor.
The security advisor to the prime minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, has been named vice prime minister.

After serving for years, Dr. Liya Tadesse has suddenly stepped down as health minister to be replaced by Dr. Mekdes Daba.
Mekdes has worked in academics and clinical practice for more than ten years.

She is also the first female subspecialist in reproductive health and family planning in Ethiopia. finished an undergraduate medical curriculum at Hawassa University prior to doing an AAU residency in obstetrics and gynaecology.
