Ethiopian Teen Honors Mother’s Dying Wish on Exam Day

​An extraordinary 14-year-old Ethiopian student from Sheger City, Eka Tafo, has captured the hearts of the nation by completing his 8th-grade national exams just hours after his mother passed away. Despite his profound grief, the young boy managed to balance attending his mother’s funeral and sitting for his academic papers all within the span of a single day.

​The teenager, identified as Khalid, faced every child’s worst nightmare when his ailing mother died just hours before his morning exam was scheduled to begin. However, before her passing, she had made him promise that no matter what happened, he would not abandon the exams he had worked so hard to prepare for.

​Driven by the solemn vow he made to his mother, Khalid left her body at home under the care of relatives and courageously walked into the examination hall to sit for his morning papers.
