The chair of the electoral board, Berthukan Midekssa, has resigned

She asserted that, as of August 8, 2023, I had voluntarily resigned from my position as chairman of the Ethiopian National Board after informing the Speaker’s office of the House of Representatives on May 28, 2024 that she had health issues.

Aside from that, she added that she will be in responsible of completing any outstanding projects and administrative transition duties up until the day she will stop working.

The chairwoman further stated that, as of the date of her appointment as Chairwoman of the National Election Board of Ethiopia in December 2019, she had fulfilled her duty to transform the board into a structure capable of conducting impartial elections.

On her official Facebook page, the board chair wrote:
“In the past four years and six months, I have been trying to carry out the responsibilities given to me by conducting national elections and referendums and managing political parties in accordance with legality, fairness, and sincerity.”
