The Ethiopian government’s decision to discontinue offering internet connection is a violation of human rights, Amnesty

The Ethiopian government has been urged by the international human rights organisation to lift the restrictions put in place on a number of social media platforms.

Amnesty International reports that the Ethiopian government applied  the embargo three months ago.

It  argues that the ban infringes on everyone’s rights to access information as well as their choice to utilise or not use social media.

Amnesty International encouraged the Ethiopian government to release imprisoned journalists and respect the right to disagree through legal protests.

International Human Rights Organisation urged Ethiopian authorities to free the 7 journalists who had been imprisoned during last week’s violence in the Amara region and to investigate claims that the inmates had physically assaulted the band in a statement released yesterday evening.

In accordance with the declaration, the government “must uphold the right to freedom of expression and the right of all sides to protest peacefully.”
