The Russian ambassador to Ethiopia, E. Terekhin, opposed the plans to use the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam as a political project.
The ambassador to Ethiopia asserted that his government was independent and free with regard to the dam in an interview with Ethio FM.
Moscow has good relations with Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt, the ambassador continued, and he vowed to oppose any efforts to make the dam a political issue.
He recalled that when the dam negotiation process was brought before the Security Council, Russia was against it.
He added that the Russian administration backs Ethiopia’s development strategy.
Therefore, the three nations should settle their disagreement over the dam peacefully, he said.
