During its first emergency session of the second phase of its eight-year term, the Hawassa City Council approved the appointment of Mr. Mekuria Mershaye, who had been put forth for the position of mayor.
Mr. Mekuria Mershaye, the director of the Sidama Region City Development and Construction Bureau, took the oath and introduced his cabinet to the council.
Mr. Tsagaye Tuke, who has been in charge of running Hawassa City for the past three years and who was recently criticised during the Sidama Regional Council’s performance review, recently posted on his Facebook page, “As a city is developed through relays, I already wish that the next appointed parties have a good working time.”
