Ethiopian students came in third position at the 7th Huawei ICT Competition Global Final, which was held in Shenzhen, China, from May 24 to May 28, 2023.

146 teams from 36 countries took part in the competition.

The innovation track included one team, while the practical track had two teams with three members each. The practical track covered datacom, security, WLAN, big data, storage, AI, OpenEuler, and OpenGauss. In the innovation track, where students compete with their own idea concepts, Ethiopia is represented by the moniker “Geez Character Classifier”.

The students were recognised for their accomplishments by Mr Liu Jifan, CEO of Huawei Ethiopia, who also underlined Huawei’s commitment to developing the ICT sector and keeping an eye on the future.

The children, on the other hand, expressed happiness at their accomplishments and mentioned how the competition exposed them to a foreign culture, which included a visit to Huawei’s headquarters.
Students from Gondar, Wachemo, Addis Ababa Science and Technology, Adama Science and Technology, and Addis Abeba Universities will have the chance to represent their country at the world level after the conclusion of various national and regional tournaments.

The Huawei ICT Competition seeks to advance effective talent supply and demand mapping, choose qualified candidates for the sector, continually provide future driving forces and active participants for digital transformation, and further contribute to a sustainable talent ecosystem.
