Dashen Bank wins the title of best bank in Ethiopia at the 2024 FT’s Banker Magazine Awards

According to The Banker’s Bank of the Year Awards 2024, Dashen Bank has won “Bank of the Year, Ethiopia.” During the awards ceremony in London on December 4, 2024, The Banker Magazine, Financial Times Group, United Kingdom, announced the award. It acknowledges the bank’s efforts to adopt modern technology, provide innovative products and services, and establish significant partnerships with a variety of stakeholders.

At a London ceremony, the CEO’s Financial Sector Advisor, Mulugeta Alebachew, and Chief Customer Experience Officer, Eyerusalem Wagaw, accepted the award on behalf of the Bank. The Banker’s “Bank of the Year” award is one of the most coveted and esteemed accolades in the banking industry. Winners come from North America, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Western Europe, and the world’s leading financial institutions regularly compete.

“This award is a testament to Dashen Bank’s relentless efforts to drive financial inclusion through digital innovation and strategic partnerships,” said Mulugeta Alebachew in his statement regarding the honour. This honour is a tribute to our valued clients’ steadfast faith and devotion, the Board and Management’s unmatched leadership and direction, and the diligence and commitment of our employees. “To maintain our position, we will keep investing in cutting-edge technologies, diversifying our offerings, and upholding our dedication to providing outstanding customer service.” He also said

Eyerusalem Wagaw continued: “We dedicate this recognition to our loyal customers and stakeholders who inspire us to deliver exceptional banking experiences. This honour motivates us to push the boundaries and set new industry standards. The Bank claims that this award is a reflection of Dashen Bank’s outstanding performance over the course of the year. Financial institutions that demonstrate exceptional performance, innovative thinking, and noteworthy contributions to the global financial system are recognised by the Banker Awards.

Dashen Bank was also named the Best Bank in Micro-Lending in East Africa at the Africa Bank 4.0 Summit (Pan Africa) earlier this year. This further emphasises Dashen Bank’s commitment to offering inclusive financial services and its role as a catalyst for economic empowerment. Dashen Bank’s network of over 880 branches across Ethiopia offers its customers customer-focused, technologically advanced solutions for both traditional and Interest-Free Banking (IFB). To achieve its objective of becoming one of Africa’s leading banks, the Bank is enhancing its offerings as part of its ground-breaking 6th Strategic Plan.

Dashen said Dashen Bank’s commitment to innovation, financial inclusion, and first-rate customer service is further supported by this accolade. For their steadfast trust and support, which have been crucial in reaching this milestone, the Bank extends its sincere gratitude to its stakeholders, customers, and staff.

Dashen Bank was founded in September 1995 with an initial investment of Birr 14.9 million by eleven shareholders and veteran bankers. The highest peak in Ethiopia, Mount Dashen, inspired the bank’s name.
