Mr. Van Helleputte, a citizen of Belgium, has been named the new CEO of Safaricom in Ethiopia. Anwar Sosa, who oversaw Safaricom Ethiopia for the previous two years, will be replaced by the new manager. the 26th of August.
According to the organisation that today announced his employment, the new CEO of Safaricom has more than 25 years of expertise in the sub-Saharan African telecom industry. Mr. Van Helleputte left the MTN Group, another industry titan in the telecom industry, and joined Safaricom Ethiopia.
The new recruit, according to a statement issued by Safaricom yesterday, has held various executive roles with telecom companies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Chad, and Gabon. He has also served as the CEO of MTN in Uganda and Côte d’Ivoire.
Anwar Sosa, the company’s first CEO, said last week that he would retire in July. Anwar Sosa would resign from his position; at the time, Safaricom stated that he had been moved to Ethiopia to work because his transfer period had expired .
