A devastating traffic accident in the East Gurage Zone has resulted in the tragic deaths of 11 people. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Edena Adebat locality, sending shockwaves through the local community as authorities work to support the families of the victims.
The accident involved a medium-sized public transport minibus that was traveling from Alcho Wuriro District toward Addis Ababa. According to local officials, the vehicle was carrying a total of 18 passengers when it veered off the road and plunged into a deep ravine.
Local administrative reports confirmed that the 11 fatalities included women, children, and youth. In addition to the lives lost, three individuals, including the driver of the minibus, sustained severe bodily injuries and are currently receiving emergency medical attention.
Miraculously, four passengers, including two young children, survived the crash with minor or no critical injuries. The local district administration immediately mobilized emergency responses, transferring the bodies of the deceased from Butajera to the Worabe Specialized Hospital for formal identification and handover to their grieving families.
While extending its deepest condolences to the affected families, the district administration stated that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash. Local authorities have reiterated the importance of road safety measures to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
