Dashen Bank claims that it paid out 14 billion Birr in telebirr during the preceding fiscal year

The Bank reported that, in collaboration with Ethio Telecom, it had successfully disbursed an incredible 14 billion birr to customers through the telebirr service during the fiscal year that concluded on June 30, 2025. Through this initiative, agents, retailers, and individual customers can now access basic financial services like minor loans and savings plans.

According to Dashen these services, which aim to improve financial inclusion and foster economic development, are particularly crucial for society’s marginalised groups. Additionally, it reported that over 2.3 million consumers used Dashen Bank’s telebirr service during the fiscal year, executing over 8.4 million transactions worth almost 14 billion birr. The significant volume of disbursements indicates that customers are becoming more and more dependent on mobile banking services.

The Bank offers a range of bespoke solutions through its partnership with Ethiopian Telecom. The “Mela” microcredit program is designed for individual customers and retailers, whilst the “Endekise” overdraft service assists users when their telebirr account balance is insufficient. With the “Sanduq” savings account, customers can also select variable or interest-free interest rates.

After adding 118 new branches nationwide last year, Dashen, which started banking services with eleven branches on January 1, 1996, has already grown its branch network to almost 500 locations. Additionally, the bank’s digital banking services have over 3.7 million users. In September 1995, eleven stockholders invested a total of 14.9 million Birr to establish Dashen Bank.
