Menber Tewahdo Tigray Orthodox Salama Kesate Berhan refused the request to maintain the relationship with the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church Holy Synod due to the war.
This was stated during the Archbishop’s press conference in response to the letter handed to the Diocese of Tigray by the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
“When the people of Tigray were massacred and all that evil was done to them, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church was unable to stop or condemn the atrocity,” they said in there statement.
“At that time, we were also forced to build the Tigray Orthodox Church,” the fathers who added that they frequently petitioned the Holy Synod to denounce many barbaric crimes said during the war.
Furthermore, the Archbishop stated that “the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, which has not been able to denounce everything that has occurred as a result of the conflict, is not drafting this letter at this time, so the Tigray Orthodox Tewahedo Church will not accept it.” They said.
