Sesame took a market lion’s share by contributing 48%
In the month of January2020, trade at the ECX trading platforms had been conducted for 21 days during which 24,391 tons of coffee, 9,643 tons of white Pea bean, 43,927 tons of sesame, 5,009 tons of Soya Bean and 9,268 tons of Green Mung Beans has been transacted for a total of ETB 4.64 Billion. Sesame took a market lion’s share contributing 48 % in trade volume and 41 % in trade value.
During the month a total of 43,927 tons of sesame had been traded for ETB 1.89 billion. Humera Gonder sesame took higher share of the market scoring 84 % and 85% in terms of volume and value respectively.
In the same period, Export coffee trade dominated the market by controlling market attention with 51% of the volume and 50% of the value, followed by Specialty and Local coffees in row. 11,409 tons of Unwashed Export coffee had been transacted for ETB 1.04 billion. Unwashed origins, Illubabour shined with 31.33% of the volume of the category followed by Harar with 19.44% market share.
As well as, 160 tons of washed export coffee traded worth ETB 10.4 Million out of this Godere took the market share by contributing 48% of the volume out of this followed by Limmu and Sheka with a market share of 31% & and 11 % respectively. 1,085 tons of Washed Export coffee had been cleared with ETB 98 Million. Limmu shined forwarding 23% of the volume of the category followed by Bench Maji and Sidama with a market share of 18% & and 15% respectively.
In addition Specialty Coffee had been traded in the month which offered 6,446 tons of coffee that was traded for about ETB 749.5 Million. Moreover, coffee for local consumption had offered 5,451 tons of coffee that was traded for ETB 359 million. For Local use coffee market; Local Unwashed took the leading in volume by 82% and that of local washed coffee has a market share of 18/%.
In line with this, a total of 9,268 tons of Green Mung Bean has traded in ECX marketing plat form with a value of ETB 240.13 Million. In comparing the trade of Green Mung Bean with the previous month, it has increased by 14 % and 16% in terms of trade volume and value respectively.
In the month of January, 5,009 tons of Soya Bean has traded in ECX marketing platform with a value of ETB 65.58 Million. Soya Bean Gojjam has taken a lion’s share of 78% and 79% in trade volume and value respectively. The Trade volume and value of Soya Beans has significantly increased by 167% and 197% respectively from the previous month.
